Hello All, I'm a software engineer from India with 9 years of experience. I'm planning to move to Germany with my wife and 2-year-old kid. We want to send our kid to the German medium school as its free of cost. We are also very much afraid that in case If we return back to India after 10-15 years, my kid will not be able to cope up with our Indian schools/universities as she learned all the concepts in the German language (not in English). Can anyone tell if you have faced any such experience like this?

Hi, I wish you all the best with your move! German schools are of a high standard and of course, there is the benefit of there being little or no cost! I understand that moving back to India and transferring to English-language schools may be a concern, so I'd suggest you have a read of the Education and Schools in Germany page. There are a range of schooling options you can consider if language is a worry. This includes bilingual schools as well as those that have an international curriculum, though these tend to come with high school fees. With the German education system, language is a key part, and it may be that a school offers English as a second language subject or that the language of instruction is both in German and English. Where in Germany are you moving to?

All the best,

Claire
