We have been offered a contract in Shanghai. It does not cover the cost of schooling for our son (first grade). Does anyone have any alternatives or know of expat homeschooling? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Homeschooling in China is a complicated matter, as the local government has technically deemed it an illegal activity. Despite this, there is a growing community of expat homeschoolers in China. A quick google search might be useful if you are looking for homeschool groups in your area.

If you do decide to homeschool your child, you should keep in mind that this would make him ineligible to attend a Chinese university and that you may encounter bureaucractic issues further down the line.

Hope this helps!
