Hi,

I am being transferred from Mumbai, India to Dublin, Ireland. My daughter is studying in 9th Standard (15 years old) under the Indian Center Board. I wanted to check what the best options we have are to get her admitted to a school in Dublin. Are there schools for moving expats and also what are the entry criteria?

Regards

Hi Rahaju,

Any child in Dublin can attend public school whatever their parents' visa status, and they can do so for free. Does your daughter speak and understand English? If she does, public school in Dublin could be a great option for you. Just be warned, classes tend to fill up very fast and lots of children end up on a waiting list. This is especially true for children who try to enrol in the middle of a semester. If you already know which neighbourhood you'll be living in, it would be best to start contacting local schools as soon as possible to find out how enrolment works and get your daughter on the waiting list if there is one.

Your other options are private or international schools. The quality of education is slightly higher than in public school and classes are smaller. However, these schools can be very expensive.

Have a look at our guide on Education and Schools in Dublin for more detailed information. The best thing to do would be to start contacting schools directly.

Hope this helps!
