What are the methods to complete school education in Indonesia, other than attending regular school?
There are various options for education and learning in Indonesia. This also depends on what you mean by regular schooling, do you mean public schools or schools in general? There are options for public, private and international schools in Indonesia.
Public schools are administered by the local government and the teaching language is also in the local language, so this option is not commonly selected by expat parents. Private schools may offer a combination of the Indoneisian curriculum as well as an international curriculum such as IB, while international schools are the most commonly selected option for schooling in Indonesia. We have a great list of international schools in Jakarta for more info.
Another alternative to schooling in an institution altogether is homeschooling. Homeschooling is legal in Indonesia and this may give your family a more flexible curriculum and pace to learn at. Would this be an option you may consider? Parents can also find private tutors for their children and there are companies to connect with tutors.
I hope this information helps?

All the best,
With the fast growth of IT Infrastructure in Indonesia, online education is becoming really popular and a promising education solution these days. The main objective of providing online high school programs and diploma from an accredited institution is to stop teenagers from dropping out of Indonesia’s high school system due to constraints like financial problems, long distance between school and home or if a student is a slow learner. Online Schooling is also the first choice of majority of expats living in Indonesia.

- Students can join virtual study groups where they can swap ideas about classroom assignments, get questions answered about things they are stuck on and can share screens, present documents etc.
- Online schools provide many benefits for specially gifted students to fill the gap in learning opportunities for them.
- Feedback in online schools is faster and more frequent.
Thank you, this is interesting. Is this an option many expats pursue in Indonesia? It seems that teaching English online is quite common around the world. Is online education more of a job opportunity for expats or can expat children also receive an education online? And for those children who are learning online, what about the social element of schooling and the pros and cons of this option?
