I work in technology in a top tier US bank. I have been offered a potential opportunity to move to London. I currently reside in NJ and work in New York City. I am married with two kid (6 & 3). We also own a house in NJ. Looking for advice from expats with similar experience to advice on salary negotiation, tax consideration for UK and US, overall rental costs for a two bedroom and other considerations. I am trying to get an idea what I should I expect so I can better negotiate with HR. I currently make USD $150K and our US mortgage is USD 3k. I am sharing this info so that I can get a realistic idea on what to expect and should negotiate to avoid potential issues. Thank you.

Hi Efe, I can't speak from personal experience, however I hope my comments can be of help. Generally, the cost of living in London is lower than it is in NYC. Things like rent, accommodation and grocery prices are all cheaper in London than they are in NYC. To get an idea of the cost of living in London, you can have a look at our Cost of Living page for London.

Tax in the UK can be complicated, the best resource I can recommend here is the PWC guide to UK taxes. In terms of your package, you need to consider things like: will they include health insurance, schooling and relocation costs?

Hope this gives you some guidance. Good luck with the decision! Rianca
