Hi Dave

Will you be moving alone, or bringing family with you? If you're looking to live in or near the central business district then Kuningan is probably your best bet.  This is a great area for people who want to live close to work, schools, and the comforts of city life. However, if you would like to live in a house rather than an apartment then it may be worth venturing out of the inner city to more suburban areas. Have a look at our guide to the areas and suburbs in Jakarta for information on the other local neighbourhoods which are suitable for expats.

With regards to safety, expats in Jakarta will need to take all the necessary precautions that they would in any other major city. Petty crime rates are high, but expats seldom experience violent crime. Road safety is also a concern, and you should always be aware of your surroundings when driving or crossing roads. Our extensive guide to safety in Indonesia might put your mind at ease about any other concerns you have.

Hope this helps.
