Hey there,

A good friend of mine and I are ready to leave the rat-race of the finance industry in NYC and pursue a long-standing dream of setting up our own bar. As doing this in New York is totally out of the question for us, my friend suggested the idea of us giving it ago in Nashville - apparently it's a great place to be an entrpreneur.

She is from Nashville so she has some experience of the city, but I've never even been there on a vacation. To be honest, its never really been at the top of my list (not big into country music - LOL!). As much as I feel burnt out from living in NYC, I do love this city - there is always so much to do in terms of arts, culture, dining out, etc. I'm worried Nashville won't come close to the lifestyle we have here and I'll get bored really easily. What do people do for fun in Nashville?

My other concern is that I'm in same-sex relationship, which is not a problem at all in NYC but I'm not sure how people will take to us in Nashville, with it being the heart or the Bible belt and all. Do you think it'll be an issue?

It's a lot to consider so I'd love your insights

Cheers

Smith

Hi Smith,

Nashville is a rapidly growing destination in the USA. Lots of cities like NYC, Los Angeles and Washington DC have outpriced prospective residents and can't offer them the quality of life, the slower-paced places like Nashville can.

You'll find that Nashville actually has a very diverse lifestyle scene - and it's now way more than just country music.  Read our Lifestyle in Nashville page for some more background.

As for the open-mindedness, it sounds like Nashville has some way to go. People are incredibly religious here still. But things are changing as more transplants arrive and change up the demographics and dynamics of the city. It'll take time but exposure to different lifestyles is key.

Have you considered visiting for a few weeks, just get a feel for the place?
