Hello all, We would be moving to Aus soon on a 457 visa (Brisbane). I googled for info and found that education in Australia comes at a prices for Temporary residents unlike Home (Canada) where education is free immaterial of status. Can someone guide the annual cost of education for Private/Public/Catholic schools. The information on net is pretty discreet and unclear. Thank you for your time in writing this info. Your help is appreciated. Zeline

Hi Zeline

Schooling in Australia can be very expensive. A private school can cost up to AUD 25,000 per year. Faith-based schools can be a fraction of the cost at about AUD 2000 per year, but obviously that is dependent on the area and the quality of the school.

Please have a look at our page on Education and Schools in Australia as this will give you more detailed information as well as some information about temporary residents on a 457 visa.

Also see Cost of Living in Australia for more information on the cost of education in the country.

The best of luck with your move to Brisbane.

Thanks Candice. I thought the high cost of education only applied ti NSW & Victoria. Im surprised to know it applies to QLD as well.

You don't have to pay for schooling in QLD if on a 457. State schools are fab, no need to go private. My son is in Grade 1 at Albany Creek and I'm very impressed.
