Dear Team and Kia Ora

Greetings from myself and my family.

Im relocating to Auckland in a short while and very much excited about it.

My Kid will be 6 year old by May 2017 and I rightly understand Primary Education starts by February. Afraid, I would be landing Auckland only by Mid of February 2017.

My question is will I be able to admit my kid in to a school during the mid term,by March 2017. Im looking at a public school.

Largely, Im looking for information regarding the admission guidelines for the primary education for my kid and what are the generic documentary and other allied requirements for school admission

Looking forward to hear from this team on this query
Rahul

Hi gorahul, as anonymous pointed out, you would be correct in thinking the school year in New Zealand begins in late January/early February. You should not have a problem still enroling your child in a public school, but it all depends on what school you are looking at - it's best to contact the school of your choice directly with regards to information on admissions and the documents you will require but, generally you will need to provide documents such as copies of your child's and your and your spouce's passports and visas, the child's birth certificate, school records/reports and immunisation records. There may be other documents required depening on each school's requirements, so as mentioned, please contact the school directly.

For a great overview of the schooling system in New Zealand, have a read of our Education and Schools in New Zealand page.

All the best with your relocation, and I hope you come right with the school search!

Nz children begin primary school on their 5th birthday. Or on the next school day following if they have a birthday during school holidays. Your child will likely be in year 2 at 6 yrs old. Yes you will be able to start them at school on arrival even if the term has started.
