Hello

I would love to work in Italy specifically Milan to gain experience. I am from Canada so I speak English, French and Italian ( immigrant parents) , I have a lot of work experience.

My question is , is it true that in Italy there is age discrimination when it comes to work ? Here is Canada that is illegal. Does  this age discrimination exist in Italy ? Specifically Milan ?

Thank you

Depending on your profession be aware that with a normal 8-hour job, if its normal labour like sales, teaching or similar you likely won't be able to afford your own one-bedroom apartment. The monthly rent is from 600 Euro to 1100 Euro, but your income will likely fall from your good Canadian salary down to 700 Euros a month. Many people need to get a second job, and this explains why Italians make so-called cash runs to Germany or Austria during summer as season workers.

If you have a higher degree – which I don't have I'm a working-class citizen, and just described the living circumstances on my level – then you may walk out with 1400 a month. Italy is like Spain and Portugal, a fairly low pay country and I recommend it for retiring but not if you want to make money. The Nordic countries where I myself work now offer exactly that. I live now in Denmark, the weather isn't great but the pay is very high and I cant complain.
