Hi,

I am relocating to Istanbul with my wife and young son (9 years old). Which neighbourhood would be the best for a family? Preferably something that isn't in the city centre and with good schools around.

Thank you.

Hi,

Istanbul has a large number of diverse neighbourhoods that will suit any expat's needs. One of the most important factors you should consider when looking for a suitable neighbourhood is the distance you would have to cover to get to work. Istanbul's traffic can get very digested and the public transport network doesn't connect to all areas.

That being said, if you're not looking to be in the hustle and bustle, the suburbs in the European side of Turkey could be a good fit. Gated communities like Alkent 2000 are popular with expats who have children as the area has some of the best private and international schools.

Have a look at our guide on Areas and Suburbs in Istanbul for more popular neighbourhoods.
